Lamelos + Stark
The 7th Hungarian Comic Festival introduces the Dutch Comic Strip-peers exhibition series.
Lamelos, a group of comic artists was founded in 1997 by Aleks Deurloo, Jeroen Funke, Boris Peeters and Sam Peeters. The members of the group met at the Kampen Art Academy and gained popularity at ceremonies, festivals and parties, where they appeared in apple and robot costumes and performed medieval miracle plays or scenes from Star Wars.
In addition, they draw comic strips. They were the ones who created Kaasheld & Poephoofd (Cheesehero & Poophead), the greatest Dutch duo since the illustrious Tom Poes and Ollie B. Bommel. Altogether four pieces were published from the series, the last one – HELP! – without any text (of course, not counting the word ”help”). Their work belongs to the top class Dutch comic strips: it is absurd, free, cheerful and colourful.
In Budapest, exhibiting at kArton Gallery, their aim is to present the whole spectrum of their skills and techniques through drawings, paintings, prints and embroidery. Formerly, audiences in Austria and Spain became acquainted with their art abundant with imaginary animals and robots.

Attila Stark, graphic designer, painter and street-art activist has had numerous exhibitions in Hungary and all over the world. According to him, he ´paints from an inner urge, he loves monkeys, grimaces and movements, every kind of flesh, air and crowdedness, and the reverse of everything´.
His visual world is defined by the city life, the symbols of subculture and the figures created by him. The intertwining of expressive gestures and graphic elements form his pictures, which, completed with Hungarian and foreign language comments and notes, become funny, ironic and self-reflective works.
He designs posters for Roham bar, festivals and bands. He is the creator of Kulo City, which is the imprint of the turn of the century Budapest, with all its parties, exhilaration and letargy. It exists in book and film version, too.
In this exhibition, in cooperation with the Netherlandish Lamelos group, a selection of his graphic works is presented.
In association with the exhibition, the Comic Fan’s Club (Képregény Kedvelők Klubja) will take place on 21 April, from 6 p.m., when the public can meet Attila Stark in person.
